Why does the Brahmaputra in its Tibetan part have less silt despite a longer course?
The Brahmaputra river is known as Tsangpo in Tibetan part. It rises from Mansarovar Lake in Tibet and has a long course. It flows into three countries namely- China, India, Bangladesh. Tibet is a very cold and dry area, so the river carries the very small volume of water which is the reason it carries very less silt with it in Tibetan part whereas, in India, it passes through the area which experiences high rainfall. That’s why it carries a huge amount of water and high silt in India.
