Sri Lanka is an island nation, south of India. It got independence in 1948. It has a diverse population like most of the South Asian nations.

The population in the majority is Sinhala speakers, with about 74% and rest are Tamil Speakers.


The Tamil speaking people have got two subgroups:


a. Sri Lankan Tamils: The natives of Sri Lanka.


b. Indian Tamils: Their forefathers came to Sri Lanka as planters.
