Coal is a fossil fuel and is a non-renewable resource which is burned for fuel and other purposes such as generating electricity, production of iron and steel in the industries, manufacturing cement and as a liquid fuel. If coal supplies get exhausted in the next five years, it will put tremendous strain on economies across the globe, leading the countries into exhausting other energy sources like petroleum and oil reserves. Also, excessive burning of fossil fuels will cause further environmental problems like global warming, loss of the ozone layer, extinction of animal species, etc. It is, therefore, essential to switch to conventional or renewable sources of energy like wind energy, solar energy and tidal energy. Using these energy sources will ensure that fossil fuels do not run dry and are used responsibly.
