Dahiya and Podu are two agriculture practices found in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh respectively. They are similar agricultural practices and better known as shifting cultivation. It is also known as ‘Jhumming’ cultivation and mostly practiced by tribal people. In this system, forest land is cleared for raising crops until the soil loses its fertility. With the loss of soil fertility, the farmer moves to newer forest lands often leading to severe environmental degradation.
