Natural gas is a clean energy resource. It is often found in association with petroleum and is used not only as a source of energy but also as a raw material in the petrochemical industry. Assam, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat have onshore fields that are also major producers of natural gas. Assam had the highest percentage in the gross production of onshore natural gas in the year 2016-17.
